The overall budget for the restoration, development and perpetual operation of the 1950s George W. Bush Childhood Home: A Presidential Site in Midland has been fixed at $7 million, according to Bill Scott, president of the project’s board of directors.
The once modest but ambitious George W. Bush Childhood Home restoration project is being expanded into its adjoining Midland neighborhood as “A Presidential Site” in honor of the nation’s 43rd president.
A monumental step toward completing the restoration of George W. Bush’s childhood home was announced by State Sen. Teel Bivins on Wednesday. The Texas Historical Commission awarded Midland a Texas Preservation Trust Fund Grant in the amount of $4,000.
There are those who scoffed when the idea was first kicked around that Midland ought to work toward preserving, embracing and promoting its ties to the Bush family.
The 1949-founded National Trust for Historic Preservation has granted $2,500 to the George W. Bush Childhood Home Inc. in Midland for consulting fees toward restoration of the Bush family home at 1412 W. Ohio Ave.
