The Project  Scope and Schedule

    The George W. Bush Childhood Home Project plans to raise $7,000,000 for the restoration of the Home and development of the site and interpretive center in the adjacent neighborhood homes. A portion of this goal is money to endow operation of the completed historic site and provide for educational programming. The Project will be completed in two phases, the first of which is underway.

The Master Plan and Historic Structure Report     Cost: $150,000

The Master Plan and Historic Structure Report for the George W. Bush Childhood Home at 1412 W. Ohio Avenue was completed in July 2003 and provided to the Texas Historical Commission.

Phase I     Cost: $1,850,000

Restoration planning for the Childhood Home is underway, with construction set to begin October 1, 2003. The Childhood Home will be open to the public in the fall of 2004.

Phase II     Cost: $5,000,000

The development of the Visitors Center, Education Center, and Administration Center, as well as exhibits, programming, and overall site landscapes, will begin in 2006. The Budget includes an operating endowment for quality programming.
