History and Research  Help us Find...

The George W. Bush Childhood Home Master Plan/Historic Structure Report has been completed and delivered to the Texas Historical Commission. This document represents more than a year of research and on-site investigation to determine exactly what architectural details remain and what was there in 1952 when the Bush Family bought the house on 1412 W. Ohio Avenue.

Research is never really complete on historic properties, especially one that has so many stories to tell. An August 2003 visit to the Bush Childhood Home by Darlene Marwitz, the Project historian and interiors researcher, resulted in discovery of two wallpapered walls, with the paper hidden under several coats of paints on the porch addition. This is one of our latest discoveries.

In the months to come, Darlene Marwitz will identify furnishings, toys, and books that are appropriate to the time period when the Bush Family lived at 1412 W. Ohio Avenue. We will need your help finding some of the rare 1950s items, so visit our website again and help us locate sources for 1950s pieces in mint condition. You will find a list of specific items later in the fall.
